Amman, May 11 (Petra) – Senate President Faisal Fayez met in Manama on Monday with Bahrain's Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh and Council of Representatives Speaker Ahmed Salman Al-Musallam.
The talks tackled ways to bolster Jordanian-Bahraini relations in various fields, as well as the current situation in the region and Iran's aggression against Jordan, Bahrain, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
During the talks, attended by Jordan's Ambassador to Bahrain, Rami Wreikat, and members of the Shura and Representatives Councils, the two sides stressed the deep-rooted and historic relations between the two kingdoms, which are steadily developing, as well as coordination across various fields.
They underscored the importance of activating parliamentary work, expanding joint coordination, exchanging parliamentary expertise, and deepening strategic partnerships to achieve the common interests of the two brotherly countries.
Fayez, who is heading a Senate delegation on a visit to Bahrain, noted growing strategic partnerships and close cooperation between the two countries, stressing the need to build on these and unify parliamentary positions on various issues of mutual interest to address various challenges.
Jordan, he said, faces economic challenges due to regional conflicts, the expansionist policies of the Israeli occupation, as well as drug-smuggling on its northern border, which impose additional economic burdens that required Arab support.
On the repercussions of the Iranian-American-Israeli war and the Iranian attacks on Jordan and the Gulf states, Fayez said His Majesty King Abdullah II had reiterated his full rejection of the attacks and that the security of the Gulf states is an integral part of Jordan's security.
"Since the war broke out, His Majesty, through intensive diplomatic efforts at various regional and international levels, has demanded security guarantees for Arab states in any future settlement with Iran," he pointed out.
Fayez stressed the need to boost the joint Arab security and defense system to safeguard the security and sovereignty of Arab states against any regional or international interference.
He called for Arab economic unity towards achieving economic integration, noting that Arab states, with enormous human and economic resources could become a regional and international power capable of protecting their interests, security, and stability.
Iran's expansionist ambitions in the Arab world are no less dangerous than Israel's threat and its expansionist and hostile ambitions in the region, said Fayez.
For their part, the heads of Bahrain's parliament noted the deep-rooted relations and partnerships with Jordan, and the joint strategic coordination between the two countries with a shared vision on various regional challenges and a commitment to protecting the region's security and stability.
They said Bahrain strongly denounced the brutal Iranian aggression and the heinous attacks on Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan as a flagrant violation of international laws and norms, and a direct threat to regional security and stability.
